Kindness - In high school, I easily became a target to the “cool kids”. I never wore make-up, I was quiet, a nerd, and a stranger. They make me feel that I wasn’t good enough…that there was no way I could compete. Two years later, I can say that I found myself again by showing myself the kindness I needed.

Kindness - Ever since I moved into my new school freshman year, I was bullied by other girls. I had always been called the “nice girl” and people would say I was too nice. I would step in at any time I usually never knew who either one of them were, but I didn’t care. All I knew was this Person needed to be protected or saved. I was usually way smaller than the bully, but in my mind I was a 6′ brick house & I knew I was standing up for someone who couldn’t. The bully usually backed down, but a few times I had to hold my own and I did. Then the bully would run off & the scared person realized that the bully wasn’t so tough after all…they would thank me & I would say please don’t …I was just doing what was right & what all of the on lookers should have done…I told them I am here for you at any time…they were so grateful that it made me so happy to erase that fear off of their face & to replace it will the RESPECT that they deserved…” - Nicole N.

But a lot of bullying wouldn’t happen if people learned to RESPECT other’s choices. No one said you had to like them or agree with them, but if you used respect then everyone could do what they want happily.” - Kirsten
Love – “Love, it’s a crazy thing actually. If people all around the world were loved by another person a mother, father, friend, or anybody they probably wouldn’t be so cruel to one another. Many people say people pick on other people because they’re jealous or above them. Well if they had that special someone giving them love they wouldn’t be jealous of a person and pick on their flaws. They wouldn’t be jealous because they wouldn’t care if they didn’t have a certain something than that other person. As long as they are being loved, that’s probably all they could ever ask for.” - Estrellita

Compassion – “I was bullied for years as a child because of my weight and I was left with terrible self-esteem for most of my adult years. I joined the military and later got my degrees in psychology and counseling and became a licensed psychotherapist. Through the years, I’ve worked with people with disabilities, helped run a suicide hotline, been a rape crisis victim’s advocate, and for the past 6 years, I’ve counseled troubled and homeless kids at a youth shelter. I’ve always cheered for the underdog, but I’ve made it my mission in life to help those who are the way I used to be – lost in a cloud of emotions. Emotions caused by the cruel taunts of others. Emotions caused by confusion about how to deal with them. And emotions caused by our own self-doubts. Mixed together those clouds become a storm that can cause even the strongest soul to crumble. But with true kindness and compassion, you can help transform someone’s life with even the simplest gesture. You can change a life more than you could ever imagine by simply showing true compassion.” - Crystal L.

We spend our lives surrounded by people who aren’t our family but our peers and coworkers and it makes life a lot easier when people feel loved.

Love – “I was bullied my entire life up until about 6 months ago. I met a bunch of great people and not once did I feel alone or scared. I’ve been beat up and made fun of because I was raised simple and old fashioned. I was raised to be kind, respectful to everyone, and to be thankful for what I have and not want things because everyone else has it. My family is Christian, but they never forced it upon me. I took it as my own decision. God says to love thy neighbor and if someone strikes your right cheek, turn and offer them your left. I turn 23 in a few months and even though I know I’ll have to deal with bullies and being bullied the rest of my life, I know how to handle it now. If I don’t stand up to them, they will continue to think it’s ok to act that way. Words and actions DO hurt. They cut deep and leave scars that never heal. I’m cautious around new people and slow to trust. I am scarred, but I am healing!!” - Amber F.
Love – “I chose love because, love is compassion, respect, kindness and especially friendship. It can not be love with each little segment. It was love that got me through the hard times. And this is one friend in particular she was the first person to ever respect me and stood by me when I needed someone. She was always there and would have taken my bullied life if she thought I would have smiled. I cryed on her shoulder more than I laughed by her side. But she stuck with me. She was the one to call me if she thought I was harming myself. And then she became the love of my life it was all from that first gesture inviting me to her birthday when we were 14 I had not been invited to one for at least 5 years I went around smiling for a week before and 3 weeks after.” - Ciara

I found the strength to get myself and my kids out of that situation. I teach them every day to respect everyone, and to make respect an expectation not an exception. If you learn to respect yourself at an early age, and not let others disrespect you then I believe you will be less likely to find yourself in a relationship with a person who abuses you. That is what I want, not only for my children and myself, but for everyone.” - Ann
Love - “When you love someone you don’t want to hurt them. You will do anything in your power to protect them.” - Kristina
Friendship - Growing up I was never a social butferfly but I had a few close friends that could help me through things. Then high school happened. I was bullied pretty bad in high school for just about anything, so much so that I was suicidal for a while. Apparently being a straight edge Christian from another state that wasn’t in the best of shape just wasn’t acceptable to the people I went to school with. My parents helped me get past the depression but by the end of high school I literally had no friends. I left all of that behind to go to college and I was bullied again. This time simply for being a straight edge. I was bullied so mich there that I a little scared of what some of the people I went to school with would do. People were all the time breaking into my dorm and stealing things or vandalizing everything. I only spent a year there, then I transfered to a different college. For the first time in 5 or 6 years I have friends. They’ve made such a difference in my life. Knowing that I have a few people I can count on has made things where I go to school now much better. It’s nice to not be afraid of everyone.
Friendship - No one deserves to be bullied. I choose friendship because one friend can make a difference. it only takes one friend to help you make it through. I also choose friendship in honor of my friends that need my help and the friends who helped me.
Compassion – “I chose compassion, for those that are bullied and that do bully. I chose compassion for those that do bully because I know deep down they have issues of their own that they try to hid from the rest of the world and their way of letting out their emotions is sadly, by bullying others. I chose compassion for those that are bullied because when they are bullied it causes them to forever, deep down, have that insecurity about them no matter how much someone tells them they are perfect the way they are. No one should ever have to feel that low about themselves.” - Amanda
Respect – “Cause in my small town and my graduating class of 300 only about half of them even know respect anymore. I’m the biggest in my class and since the 4th grade I have bullied picked on. Got in fights to defend my honor. Called names jumped held at gun point. Just cause they thought it was funny and fun and games. no student in the graduating class has any respect for there elders or peers and I stand up against it.” - Christian B.
Kindness – “I cannot stand at anyone you is not being kind. 90% 0f the time the victim did not do anything wrong. So watching a person that did not do anything wrong and feeling stressed and afraid of school is not right. NO one is better than anyone, so why do we pick on pour souls that have done nothing wrong, and feel like they will not make it at anything. They think they could just die. They think lots of others are better than he is. WE can stop it but we need support and help. And think about this if the bully was being bullied what would he/she do?” - Bradley Q.
Compassion - Because bullying is a serious problem, I too have been a victim of bullying and if it weren’t for administrators who helped me out, I don’t know where I would have been today.
Kindness - “As someone who has witnessed bullying multiple times in my life, I find kindness to those bullied goes a long way. Offering them a hand, giving them kindness and sticking up for them when no one else will is something I feel very strongly about. Kindness - “Because you never know when someone you come in contact with is having a horrible day, or a hard life. If it were You in Their shoes, how would you want to be treated? One simple crack of a smile or “have a nice day” could make a huge difference…pass on the positive. It multiplies.” - RM

I have come to accept that not everyone will appreciate my personality, my hair, my laugh or that I have a brain. I still respect you. I am a grown woman and bullies will try to disrupt my life. Pffft – talk to the hand, I”m too pretty for your drama. But know this — I still respect you. Respect is one of the seven grandfather teachings, it is the basic law of life. Respect is cool……embrace it. Smile in the face of bullies, it will shatter their warped perception of power. *peace sign*” - Dorinda
Compassion – “I have two middle school boys, one in 6th and one in 7th grade. Both have been victims of types of bullying during different points in their young lives. Recently, a boy in our local area committed suicide, after it was said that he had been bullied at school. The school he attends has been KNOWN for their high tolerance of bullying and their neglect to do anything about it. I know some of my friends, who have children there, who have been bullied and the punishments have been minor and belittled. The school is said to be under investigation. We are trying to get out local news to do a report on bullying, to bring attention to the local community and schools in the area, that they are responsible for the well being of our children when in their care. This goes for whatever happens between them and other students. It’s time for students, teachers, parents and everyone to stand up against bullying. When they see something they know is not right, they need to stand up against it. We are stronger in numbers. I want to make a difference in my children’s school (a different school in our local area) and this school, that suffered this recent tragedy. I think I owe that to my children, to make sure they do not have to feel this way, or have a classmate or friend ever feel this way. They need to know, they are not alone.” - Erin
Respect - Our society today has lost the meaning of respect for others. I believe this is the heart of a lot of bullying. Respect yourself/respect others.
Compassion – “The meaning of compassion can only be described as a feeling of deep sympathy and sorrow for another who is stricken by misfortune, accompanied by a strong desire to alleviate that suffering. Compassion is not based on our own projections but rather on the rights of others. I was bullied, and I know exactly what it feels like to be the victim. I’m not standing up for me anymore rather than the people who still have to go through this everyday. There is a light at the end of the tunnel, and we can make it brighter if we stand together to end bullying.” - Vanesssa

Respect - “I have listened to so many people tear each other down behind their backs and sadly enough I actually had the guts to be one of those people for as long as I remember. I want to make a difference in all schools because my school isn’t mean enough to have people commit. I mean I have openly gay kids there and no one really cares. I just want people to stop and realize what they are actually doing to each other and think for a second and say ‘why am I doing this? What did they do to deserve it? My torture?’” - Liliana E.
Love - Love is a choice, not just a feeling. It is active, not passive. It is intentional, not accidental. It is selfless and it builds others up. I will choose to be a builder and stand up to those who tear others down.

Love - “I was bullied all in middle school I thought it was over when I got to high school but I was wrong. When I got to college was the worst bullying I’ve ever experienced. I was called names. Threatened everything. I had to change my number. My family was threatened and called names. I told the dorm counselors and teachers trying to get help but no one would listen. The worst part was that I was going to a “Christian” college. I chose the “I choose love” bracelet because not once was shown any Christian love but I now realize that just because I wasn’t shown love or respect or kindness doesn’t mean I can’t chose those things. I chose love. Even when no love was ever shown to me.” - Kam
Compassion - I am a teacher and sometimes I get kids that are not the “ideal child” that most educators would expect to have in their classroom. I usually work with low performing students and behavior problems. It is not east but I can say that I have never given up on a student. If only one person in this lifetime believes in these individuals, then maybe that will one day believe in themselves.
Friendship - Friendship is important because you need them to support you through the hard times. I really had a good support system.
Friendship – “I have multiple emotional disabilities and a few physical disabilities. I was bullied all the time- and I still am. I’ve learned to accept it though. People thought because I was “labeled” with my disabilities, I was different. That is not true. I am the same- I just have more challenges with certain things than my peers. My best friend helped me overcome many of my challenges. Everyone deserves to have a friend like that. Unfortunately, many people who are “different” like me do not have supportive, kind people as friends. And honestly, that is the most important thing in the world.” - Phoebe
Friendship - “I could have never survived bullying without my friends. They were there for me all along. I’d like to thank them personally: Miles, Erica, and Shelby. They helped me to get through this. Even with Shelby going to a different school, I always felt better after I talked to her about it. You need people there to defend you and to be there for you. That’s what they did, and I appreciate it more than they’ll ever know.” - Laura

I’m so grateful for all the people I can count on this world that are practically my family now. I’m from Australia and I know that lots of children around the world are struggling at school because they get bullied. I would do anything to stop all bullying. JUST FOR A DAY.
Love – “I choose love because I believe that everyone deserves to be loved no matter who they are. I know what it feels like not to e loved and I never want to see other people feel that way. Respect - Respect shows a common human decency. You don’t have to be the nicest or the friendliest person – you just have to treat people the way you’d like to be treated. With respect, any group of people can function as cohesive community.
Love - I never thought love was meant for me, because of what people said I thought I would never find someone. I mean I have had Girlfriends, but I always “ruined” it, I broke up with them so I wouldn’t get hurt. I built walls to protect myself but still got hurt. love is something everyone needs.

Even my father isn’t kind to me. He does as if I’m not worth being his child. Which makes me start thinking that if everybody thinks I’m worthless, I surely true. I’m not worth living.” - Jordy
Respect - “I have been disrespected by multiple people. Even my “best friends” disrespected me. I just want to get the message out there. If your friends disrespect you, they are NOT your FRIENDS & if your partner disrespects you it is NOT LOVE! Treat others how you would want to be treated. Respect to get respect.” - Taylor M.
Respect - I got bullied for being fat when I first went up to high school. I eventually lost weight and was so proud of myself for it. People didn’t respect me at all though and treated me like an animal just because I was over-weight. I don’t understand how people could be so horrible to someone and put down their self-esteem so much. I could never walk up to someone and call that fat or anything like that. I really wish other people would feel the same.
Respect - “I recently moved from a small private school in California to a public school in northern Idaho. I was well liked by my peers and teachers at my old school and figured it would be the same at my new school. I was wrong. I was basically out casted because I wasn’t there since my freshman year. I was ignored or made fun of…It sucked. I decided that I didn’t care what these people thought of me. I wasn’t going to let their options of me define who I was. I have just been myself. I have a few friends..but am still kind of invisible to the the “popular” kids. I am not however invisible to my teachers. I learned that it is better to be yourself and treat others who may be mean to you with respect and kindness because it makes you the better person. Also when you are noticed it will because you are being yourself, not a fake you that is popular!” - Erin M.

I may be a little bit of all those things, who knows but, that’s not why people don’t know my name; why people don’t talk to me. That’s my doing. Be kind to people, talk to new people and ask that random person in your class out for coffee. You never know another person’s struggles and victories until you get to know them. Friendship – “Without friendship, people in the wolrd would live lonely lives. The feeling of being unwanted in social groups and being bullied because you’re different is a terrible feeling. You make so many memories with your friends and you share so much joy with them. Friendship truly lets you live your life to the fullest, afterall life is about interacting and exploring a whole side of things. I’ve never understood why girls were so mean to each other, as I’m sure every girl knows how hard a girl’s life can be, and so without having their best friends and girl friends around, how are we meant to move on from heart break or from hard times? Who else is going to be there with us and be there for us to have a shoulder to cry on when you’re just making enemies with other girls? Girls need to stick together not bully each other, and likewise for guys. Forming friendships and having great friends are truly one of the joys in life.” - Aileen
Respect - It is hard to come by and even harder to earn — students have become so accustomed to treating each other disrespectfully and unsafely, it is a dangerous trend we need to stop. I want to advocate for students to feel respected, safe, and responsible – taking action as change agents and advocates not only themselves, but others.
Friendship - I choose friendship because my friends mean the world to me. My bestfriend, her name is Ashley, she has been there for me since the 7th grade. We have had a lot of ups and downs, we may be angry at each other, but if one of us has a crisis or one of us needs a shoulder to cry on we are always there for one another. I am 5’0 tall so I will get the rude comments, and she will always stick up for me. Insulting me is like insulting her, and it goes vice versa. I love my bestfriend, she isn’t only my bestfriend, she is like my sister. That is why I choose friendship.

I was never popular, no one has ever tried to get to know me for me. I needed a friend, I i had one but then she moved away and I felt alone. I tried to make friends but it was hard for me since of my Rep. This is why i think Friendship is the best

Compassion - Compassion is one of the things bully victims need most. While they are suffering endlessly day after day, they really at least 1 person there for them. Even at the weekend and in the holidays they can’t escape the bullying, as the social networking sites are just awaiting them every day, mocking their inability to escape the bullying trauma. I speak from experience as well. Everyone who’s being bullied should always have someone/some people there for them, who can sympathize for them and support them during their horrible suffering. Usually a parent or a friend or any family friends are the best source of support. They still keep you going at a time like this. People say teachers are the most important people to tell, which they should be, being the only ones to properly control it, which I hope is the case for all other bully victims, because it wasn’t the case for me. The teachers in my school never did a thing about the bullying i was suffering through. I was also assigned to some pyschatrists and they never did a thing either. They would just try and make out asif it was my fault and that I was being too paranoid. They were absolutely useless and selfish. I am outraged thinking of it. Maybe they were bullies when they were in school. I did have some people there for me though, like my mum, some family friends and 1 or 2 friends. They were probably the only thing that kept me going. I think compassion is really important for anyone who’s suffering has compassion for various people, everyone suffering through bullying or any other type of trauma deserves compassion.

Friendship – “I chose friendship because I want people to know that they have somebody who cares about them and who wants to know them well and i want them to have somebody that will sick by their side” - Moriah
Respect - “My high school dance team is constantly being made fun of because we are different, regardless of the fact that we are one of the top teams in the state and region. I’m sick of being treated with no respect, which is why i plan to treat everyone else with respect because i would never want to do to others the way i have been treated.” - Amanda D.
Respect - All through out my life and still to this day, I have been a victim of bullying. I have NEVER done anything to another person to be bullied. It was always because how I looked, the people I knew, friends I was with, or who I talked to. I have always had respect for everyone else but some never had respect for me. I had a horrible childhood due to abuse and bullying and in high school I battled depression, self harm and drugs. But because I had friends that respected me they helped me get through ALL of that. I am the person I am today, I have respect for myself and others. I now help the students at my high school with depression and bullying. I have made speeches in public and shown inspiration in my community. I am spreading the word and hope that one day others will think about my story and stop bullying. I am also writing a book about my life and hope others that share the same pain I did will overcome their fears and KNOW that their is a light at the end of the tunnel. That is why I choose respect because it comes along way when you show others respect and yourself.
Love – “Friendship, Kindness, Respect, and Compassion are all ways to Love. They say the Earth’s medicine is Water, the Sky’s medicine is Sunshine, and People’s medicine is Love. Love gives people a sense of belonging and a home to call their own. Anyone whose ever been bullied knows that the Love is the light that shines through our cave. Without Love we feel lost and our lives get dark. With it, we are given a new perspective on life, a much brighter perspective.” - NoorFatima
Kindness – “I lead by example, and being kind and respectful to all is my everyday practice in society.” - Stacey
Kindness - Because everyone deserves to have happiness and sometimes kindness is where it starts.
Compassion - Because of where I want my education to take me. I want to work with groups that are targeted by bullying, whether they are young or elderly. We need to learn to show compassion and have compassion for every age, race, religion, sex, gender, or capabilities. We need to stand up for others when they’re being bullied, not just observe.

Love - Everybody is different, but some people feel the need to judge us based on our differences. I love everyone. Regardless of looks and background. I think everyone is beautiful and I wanna change this cruel, twisted world.
Respect - Respect is something all humans are born with. It’s up to you if you’re going to respect yourself and others around you. This is something that is preached since we are nothing but toddlers. Some human beings choose to disrespect others out of selfishness (too prideful, too much interest in their social advancement by stepping on other’s toes.) It’s Because they lack selflessness to begin with. It all starts with self respect from this day. Respect yourself, respect others, for your own sake. In today’s society, life is looked at as a ladder. People are willing to step all over you just to gain. Life is much like a weight room. When someone is struggling with the weight they’re trying to push, don’t stand back and just watch; go “spot” that person. Help them push that weight off of them whether they are fat, skinny, black, white, yellow, green, purple, gay, straight, bisexual, whatever. Life begins with self respect. You’ve gotta want to pat yourself on the shoulder at the end of the day. Dare to say “hello”, “how are you today?” “what’s up?”.
Compassion - I choose compassion because everyone needs it at one point in their lives. If you don’t have someone to be compassionate to you while you’re getting bullied you feel like you’re trapped and have no one to talk to and to express you emotions in front of.

Once we learn to RESPECT one another for who we are, no matter how different, we can reach peace.” - Miss Slack – HMS

Compassion – “I choose compassion because I know what it’s like to be different. I know what it feels like to stand alone with no one who “looks” like you. To feel like no one understands what you’re going through. I know what it’s like to feel the need to scream at the top of your lungs hoping someone will hear and understand and stand up for you. As a mother I know what it’s like when your child comes home crying because they look different from the other kids in school. If we teach our children compassion for others, love and respect for the fact that we are all unique and special in our own way, then hopefully we are on the road to ending this vicious cycle.
Compassion and kindness starts in the home. Our children need to feel loved and safe. They should be taught to accept others as they are because although we may not look the same, we all bleed the same.” - Veronica L.

He’s not going through a liver transplant and i can’t tell you how upsetting and sad i am. i want to help teens find the love in their heart, and help stop the bullying. No brother, sister, aunt, uncle, cousin, mother and father deserve to see their child dying in a hospital bed all because some selfish children think its okay to hurt someone.” - Kaytlyn F.
Kindness – “I think that kindness is important because when someone is bullying another they are not being kind at all. All they do is aim to hurt & not care about the effects it may have on someone. Also when you are getting bullied you really start to hate yourself & put yourself down, its important to be kind to yourself too.” - Courtney
Love - I believe that it take you to love yourself before you love others. It takes you to believe that life with get better. That you are beautiful inside and out. I believe that every human is loved and are not alone.
Love – “I love my sister. She is bullied at school and it breaks my heart knowing she cries herself to sleep and night. I want to start an anti bullying program in Lebanon. A young girl a few months ago hung herself in the middle of the night at a public park and a girl in a town 15 MIN from here shot herself because they were bullied. It needs stop.” - Shyla
Respect – “Because people bully me for my past and they don’t have respect for anyone around them and I want them to know that I have respect for other people/” - Lorenza
Love - “I choose love because…it’s the one thing we don’t have enough of in this world. We need more love and caring. If we all just took a couple seconds to think before we act or react. We wouldn’t have all the violence that we have in this world. We all need to just take some time to breath. Think about where the other person is coming from. And think about how to react without being violent or saying anything that is hurt full. Love will change all that, if we only give love a chance. Love can save us all!!!” - Summer

Other days, I am amazed at how cruel and thoughtless they can be. I choose to end bullying. I tell young people, they do not have to be friends with everyone, but they DO have to respect them. Verbal and physical abuse is not an option. I want to join the movement and end bullying forever.
Respect - I was once the bully. In middle school I harassed my peers. I made fun of the kids who was smaller them me. I made them cry at points. I was a very horrible person. In Hightower school things changed. I was no longer the bully I was being bullied. I was made fun of because of my over weight problems. I was made fun of because of my speech impediment. I was made fun if because I was in a club that wasn’t popular. My bullies made me fell worthless they made me feel that if I would go missing nobody would noticed. These people made me feel like my life wasn’t worth living. This year the beginning of my senior year I was really struggling with with my bullies. I was having suicidal thoughts. I came home from school and I had my mind made up. I was gonna down a bunch of prescription pills we had in our house. I was going to do it but then my mom came home and I had no choice but to stop. I then had this big fight with my mom and se told my school proximal to talk to me. I told him my story and he said he would stop the problem. I was lucky my principal stepped in. If he wouldn’t I would of probably committed suicide. I only got the help because I spoke out. Not every body is willing to speck out. It is our jobs to speck out for them. So I CHOSE RESPECT because if you respect some one you won’t bully them.

They are judged and hated and changed–never accepted and NEVER loved. Love should be unconditional and a basic right for all people. Hate should never be instinctual. Too many times, people make the immediate decision to hate. But love is never that simple. People believe love takes time and patience and trust, and maybe that’s true in some cases, but it should never be hate that takes the place of love. And too many times, people don’t understand difference, don’t understand individuality, and fear what they don’t understand. That fear becomes hate, and hate becomes persecution. So all I am going say is keep your friends close because you never know when you might need them.” - Amy B.

Respect - “It is not expected for us to become best friends with every person who crosses our path in life. It is however, a responsibility of every human being to treat others with respect and tolerance. We don’t have to love everything about someone, we just have to respect who they are and their right to be different because it’s our differences that make us such spectacular creatures. No two snowflakes are alike yet they fall so harmoniously together, right alongside each other and ultimately they coexist on everything they cover. With respect and tolerance comes a better world for us all.” - Jenny O.
Friendship – “Because no matter who you are or what you do everyone deserves to be treated with some kindness. Life is too short to make enemies. Its better to make friends and get along then it is to live your life afraid of someone.” - Jessica

We laugh, we cry, we have our ups, and downs. Though one person’s feelings & opinions may be different from someone else, one important thing we must learn is to RESPECT difference. ” - Matthew
Kindness - I chose kindness because being kind is very important. I’ve been bullied for about 3 years now, and I choose to only include kind people in my life, and eliminate the rude and mean ones.

Love - To love someone who is cruel and unkind is very hard but if you can do it it will show and you will have more strength to overcome the bullies. No one can be horrid to some one who can only show them love because these people need you to be afraid and to retaliate. it feeds their ego.
Friendship – “Everytime i go to school i look around me and i hear somebody somewhere making fun of another student . Most people will just do this and think ” im so cool i make fun of people ” But i don’t . When i hear somebody being made fun of , i become there friend . When i see somebody sitting alone at lunch, i sit by them. & when i see somebody working alone on a partner project, i ask to be their partner . Thats just how i am ,and how i think everybody should be . I have been bullied previously , and i know what its llike , so i try to make those other students feel loved, because nobody did it for me & i know what it feels like to not be loved by the students around you.” - Lauren
Friendship – “Everyday i see people at school making fun of others , including my best friend, and nobody ever does anything about them except me . When i see somebody sitting alone at lunch, i sit with them . When i see people making fun of others, i become friends with those others . I like to make people around me feel loved and hopefully they will do the same to other people to when the time comes .” - Lauren

Friendship – “Friends cheer you up when you’re down and they stick up for you and never leave you behind! I would be no where near where i am to day without my friends!” - HJH
Friendship – “I’ve been bullied my whole life and when no one else wanted to talk to me , be friends with me, my cousin was right behind me. holding my hand the whole way. i am who i am today because of her. she has made my life better every day. shes my best friend. We do everything together. She stands up for me. I love my best friend. I wouldn’t be alive without her.” - Taylor
Respect – “Because we’re all 1 RACE….the Human Race! I was bullied in grade school for years…now I fight at the school districts to keep my son from being bullied!” - Mike L.
Friendship - I used to be bullied in high school because I was different, I had ginger hair. Which sounds pathetic and stupid, but the kids used to rip into me so much for it. I hated going to school because they’d just crowd around me and shout insults and after a while they became more intense, like shouting ‘ugly’ and ‘no one wants you here, just kill yourself already’. I never gave them that satisfaction. One day a girl came up to me and asked if I wanted to sit next to her at lunch. We’ve been best friends ever since, and because of her, I got through the bullying, just about. And I’ve never felt better.
Friendship – “I have lost a lot of friends in my life, through death or growing apart, but I have kept a handful of incredible ones.
Friends are the family you can tell everything. There is a distinct line between friends and family. You cant tell your family about everything that bothers you/gets you down/what scares you/makes you happy but friends you can. I would not be the person I am today if it hadn’t been for the love and support of my friends. They kept me strong in the bad times and the good times, and I know to this day that they will be there for me whenever I need them, as I will be for them. Never underestimate the power of friendship. By reaching out and caring for someone you may save them.” - Steph

Respect - “Because it you don’t get respect of people how can you respect them back?” - Kara A.
Friendship – “Middle school was a tough time for me and I went through a major awkward stage. I did Strange things like running like a horse because horse back riding was and is my passion. I got called many names and even my own friends stopped talking to me. I realized I was doing some strange things but by the time I realized this I was alone. Then some girls went to start a club called the I hate Claire club. I did nothing to them. I didn’t even know them. But they went around school and had people signing up. I felt like complete dirt and no one was even there for me to have a shoulder to cry on. They were going to make a website and everything. A day in gym class I put my head down and cried, my gym teacher asked another student what was wrong and she explained Everything. This girl saved me because the gym teacher reported it and everything was put to a stop. I choose friendship because its important to reach out to someone who needs you and to be a friend. And it’s important to stand by your friends no matter what changes they’re going through.” - Claire
Compassion – “I used to get bullied in primary for 7 years and no one ever shoes an interest in what was happening , exept my parents obviously , in my secondary days I stick up for all of my friends , if they have a problem they come straight to me , ,i would never hurt any one just speak to them , I never raise my voice to high and I tell them were they should be , what they should do and that I will always defend my friends no matter what!” - Sophie

Friendship - Because lots of friend have left me and given up on me and I can never tell who my real friends are, do yeah I’d like to have a real true honest to god friendship.
Friendship - I think friendship is one of the important reason for happiness. Everybody needs a friend to talk to, to there thoughts and to hang out with. Friends can be your family even, but someone needs a friend outside of there family. I think friendship is very important, and if you were a person being bullied you would want a friend to talk to about getting bullied.
Respect – “i choose respect because people have been bullying me because i listen to heavy-metal and rock i have been suffering with depression since i was 12 because i was bulled since i was in year 3 of school now im 15 and its got worse.” - Hannah G.
Friendship - Sometimes, all anyone ever needs is a friend. You could be having the worst day and all it takes is one person to turn it around and make you feel better. If you reach out to someone being bullied it could completely change their life. Everyone needs a friend and friendship can have a huge impact on someone’s life.
Friendship – “Without friendship my life wouldn’t be the same. My friends mean the world to me and i willing to fight to the end to keep a true friend.” - Tasha L.
Friendship - Everyone should have a friend. Even if you make a mistake, you should be forgiven for it, no matter how big the mistake is.
Friendship - I could’ve pick all of these, but I chose this one because I have a friend, who is transgender, he got bullied. Everyone said: “YOU CAN’T BE A BOY.” and he got up in front of our homebase, and was talking about how people take their lives, because of bullying, how its disgusting what people to do, just to feel better about themselves, I started crying, because he said it perfectly. I support him, I am one of his best friends, I am losing a lot of my friends because of it. I dont mind, because if they dont have the knowledge, to understand that saying one mean thing, could push someone over the limit, that, just because they’re different doesnt mean we cant be friends. So I took a stand, and I stopped everyone who made fun of him, or anybody else. It just makes me disappointed with everyone, who bullies, and even worse when people say: “Dont bully!” then they go and bully someone. Its terrible.
Compassion – “I work with a lot of people with different backgrounds, and the greatest cause of conflict that I see is misinterpretation. We think we know where other people are coming from, why they say the things they do, but we’re almost always looking at the situation from our own viewpoints. We need to look beyond ourselves to understand others.” - Annie

Love – “There is no greater power than love. Love heals everything and I believe loving one another and showing love for each other can stop bullying.” - Tristan W.
Kindness - “I choose Kindness because you never know what the other person is going through, and the least you can do to make things better is to be generous and considerate of their feelings. Most cases with bullying, the bully hasn’t walked an inch in the victim’s shoes. ANYTHING can be going on in their lives. A simple insult can lead to suicide. Being a part of the Girl Scouts of America for numerous years has taught me valuable lessons in life and about people. Throughout those years, I’ve taken steps to become a better person and to also promote to others how they can become better. We can start by acts of consideration, respect, generosity, and friendliness. Just be kind, because words and actions go a very long way. Bullying in all forms needs to come to an end; bullying just isn’t worth it. One simple act of kindness, TO EVERYONE, makes all the difference. I choose KINDNESS.” - Shannon J.
Respect - Self Respect is one of the most important tools we have against combating people that wish to bring us down. Unless we have self respect we can not respect others, we also can’t expect them to respect us if we can not respect ourselves. Although friendship, kindness, compassion and love are ALL important, I believe respect is where it all begins.
Friendship – “All my life through High School, I tried my hardest to have friends. But, my classmates and other people, even younger than myself would taunt me and tease me every single day. I started to hate going to school, my grades started to decline and I ended up on drugs. After High School, i finally grew up and I pushed all my drug-addicted “friends” away. I haven’t made much of my life since then, but, I have a few selected friends left in this world that keep me going.” - Scott B.
Respect - “I was on a team who didn’t respect eachother it got so horrible to go to practice I would cry everyday my parents eventually had to take me off the team and I just don’t want anyone to feel how I felt” - Jacalyn
Respect – “Respect is a two way thing, you know the saying treat others the way you wish to be treated, this links in with bullying. Bullies have no respect, not just for others but for themselves. They treat people in a bad way and think they will be treated kindly. Bullies normally bully because they are jealous and have to make themselves feel better about their insecurities. If you are being bullied, stay strong and smile, you will beat the bullies, they will end up with a very sad life.” - Jodie
Love – “Love is the ultimate trait of all 5 of theses. God called us to love one another. Because Jesus loved, we are supposed to love too. With love, comes the rest of these attributes. If our main goal is to love one another, then we will establish many friendships. These lead to respect and kindness toasted one another. And compassion is, I believe, a synonym for love. So, through love we can all acquire all of 5 of the fantastic personality attributes and become a better world.” - Payton
Friendship – “I choose friendship because it is very important to me in many ways. First friends can back you up if your in any kind of trouble and they will always be there for you no matter how bad things get.” - Jessica
Love - If everyone were more loving and understanding in this world, there would be fewer teens who feel their only escape is to end their short lives. I believe that love conquers all!
Love – “I choose love because I know I am able to share it with everyone that I come across. It’s not about whether someone deserves it or not because in the end we all need it. I ask myself – would I not want to be loved? We all are all unique and that’s the beauty of being human. There is too much hatred already going around in the world – I don’t want that anymore. My heart breaks reading the stories of others. Through the love that God has given me and reciprocating it to others – I can take one step forward towards change. Every effort counts.” - Miguel M.
Friendship – “My story is no less and no more than anyone else’s. I am stronger because of the things I’ve been through.” - Lauren
Friendship - Giving someone your friendship is the simplest way of saying….”I’m here for you!”
Friendship - “Because I always found it hard to make friends, I never learnt how.” - Samantha
Compassion – “People are often self cantered and cruel. Many will choose to look away when one is in need. They would rather point out other’s imperfections and feed upon other’s pain, because of their own internal insecurities. This world needs more compassion and understanding. We need to realize that every person has their own demons they struggle with, and instead of kicking them while they are down, we need to extend our hand in support, and help them back up.” - Anzhela
Compassion - “Everyone deserves to be understood.” - Merarys D.
Kindness – “I chose kindness because too many people are unkind to others. People have no idea what that person is going through and no right to assume that they do. Everyone is fighting a battle. You never know how cruel words or actions will affect a person.” - Grace
Respect - “I Choose RESPECT because i’m gay, and i wish for everybody to be respected for WHO THEY ARE!” – Roman
Friendship - I choose friendship, to be a friend to those who need one. A friend is a person that is there for another person. A friend can offer love, compassion, and kindness, which are aspects the world could really use.
Kindness – “I chose kindness because there are some many people who underestimate the power of one small act of it. They don’t see how a smile, a compliment, or even a thumbs up can turn someone’s day, week, life around. They don’t see how it could stop suicide and self harm. I believe that you should be nice to everyone, regardless of their ethnicity, or the way they dress. I wish I can say that one person can make this world a better place to live in, filled with love, respect, compassion, kindness and friendship. But I can’t; It’ll be too much like world peace, something society clearly isn’t capable of. It’s media’s fault; It’s our fault. Why do bullies bully? Because they think it’s right. Why? Look around us. We are basically accepting bullying; everyday, people are mistreating each other on television (Reality TV) as if it’s the most common part in today’s world. As if. Is this another one of society’s unspoken rules I haven’t heard about? Well guess what? Rules are meant to be broken. The choice is yours. ♥” - SilverCherrySage20111
Respect – “I don’t need everyone to love me, i have tons of people who love me, and I’m more than blessed. I have friends and family who are kind and compassionate, i have great friends and amazing people i trust and love with all of my heart. But what matters most is that people love you and RESPECT you for who you are. It hurts when people can’t accept who I am, and when they can’t respect what i do. I’m a beautiful person, like everyone else. I wish they could all see that.” - Jesse R.
Love - “after my mom died and i was left with gruesome scars on my face and my front teeth knocked out, i felt like no one could love me, that i was a hideous monster. i was made fun of every day from 7th grade until i graduated high school. i choose love to show people no matter what YOU ARE WORTH LOVING! but you must also love yourself as well.” - danielle a.
Kindness - I believe kindness sums up all these values. Being kind shows respect, love, friendship and compassion altogether or in individual ways.
Kindness – “”1″ act of Kindness can change a person’s whole day, week, or even life. We are all quick to judge, and quick to be rude because it is we see all around the world. Maybe if we just set out to do “1″ act of Kindness around our town, then maybe that person will pay it forward thenyour “1″ act turned into a million, and that “1″ act will then spread from your town, to a state, then to a nation, then to the World. Thats how just “1″ person, with “1″ act of Kindness can change a whole world. All you have to do is Believe, and ACT.” - Jody P. – Peak Submission St. Marys Ohio
Friendship – “I choose friendship because everyone deserves atleast one good friend to talk and share feelings with. Plus a true friend can give you the love, compassion, respect, and kindness you need. Even if its ONE person, thats all you need. Having multiple friends is great, but can you say that you would tell them all anything? If you say yes, that is amazing, don’t change it. If not, so what. Several good friends in your support system is just as strong as one great friend.” - Miranda M.
Respect - “I think that even if you dont like someone, you should still respect them, since preschool we’ve all been told, “treat others the way you want to be treated.” and I think it’s time we all really start to follow that rule and respect others just as we want to be respected. I think bullying is wrong, even if you dont like a person, you should always respect them and be kind because what comes around, goes around.” – Stephanie
Friendship – “I think everyone needs a friend, someone to love them for who they are. Friendship is everything. There the ones who help you when you fall. There the ones whose shoulder you cry on. What else more is there to say? Friendship is the one i pick.” – Katarina
Friendship - Because sadly, no matter how stupid it is, bullying will never go away but if you have friends to help you through it those bullies can’t affect you.
Love - I chose love because it is the strongest force in the world. No matter who it is, boy or girl, you should be allowed to love whoever you want and not be judged for it.
Friendship – “I chose Friendship because without your best friend it would be so much harder to get over bullying because even though your parents are always there for you sometimes it can still be hard to tell them whats going on. I am the Varsity Cheer captain at the school I go to and I am not respected at all by my coach and because of that I am choosing not to continue on cheering even though it is my life! I wish it would have turned out better my senior year and just that little bit of RESPECT goes a long way. RESPECT find out what it means to ME!” - Chelsey

Love – “I choose love because if you expect it respect then you should be the first to show it. I hate it when I see bullying. I, myself, have been a victim of bullying. They tell me things that aren’t true about myself, but because I hear it every single day, I start to believe the lies. I felt like there was nothing to do. I felt helpless. I wanted to be loved. Either they never were taught it growing up, or it has been so long since they have seen it that they have forgotten what it looks like. It only takes one person doing one kind act to remind those that do not know, what kindness is. If each person committed to performing one kind act a day, more people would grow up surrounded by kindness and pass it on as they grow older.” - Dana

Everyone deserves love, wants love, & will sometimes give it back in return. Not everybody is up to the idea of just loving anyone because of past experiences but, I know I am, whether it means just being there to listen, to give advice, if someone needs a friend, or they just plain out need someone to just sit in silence with, whatever it is I’ll be there. ” - Ammbie
Compassion - I choose compassion because I believe showing compassion to others plays a very important role ending bullying. One compassionate person could start a positive “epidemic” with the people that see what a difference that one person has made.
Respect - “I feel that it is very important to respect others and their differences. I have 2 kids and i always taught them that variety is the spice of life. You really never know what might be going on in someone’s life and the words you say to them have the power to either make them or break them. I hear of the horrible stories of lives lost due to the harsh words said by others and it breaks my heart. I tell my kids to hold their heads up high and be proud of who they are. I wish all kids were given that same message. We are all equal in God’s eyes and everyone is equally important, as well as beautiful. I work at a local Credit Union and we have decided to use “Anti-bullying” as our Halloween theme. We will be decorating the branch in Dia de Los Muertos (Day of the Dead) decor and handing our anti-bullying flyers with candy. It is our hope that we can make a difference in someone’s life.” - Theresa B.

Love - Because as long as you love yourself, the words of those who choose to bully should fall on deaf ears. Even though it is tough at times the words that other people speak for the most part have no affect on the outcome of your life. If you love yourself then others will love you just as much and the people that don’t, don’t deserve your love anyway
Respect - Respect the enviornment, others, and above all — yourself.

Compassion – “I choose compassion because the world could use some help, and if everyone lessened the burden of another, peace would be reached, and each goal would be met, as love for one another would be found, respect for the past that everyone has dealt with, the kindness to help one another, and friendship found in everyone, even those who you never thought you would befriend.” - Rebekka
Respect - I choose respect because at 10 years old my daughter has been bullied by one little girl for 3 years and no matter how hard we have dealt with this it always seems to keep happening. Now we have moved into another school and here in Victoria, Texas we are a group of parents upset with the way our situations have been handled and are now taking into our own hands to “stand strong” against bullying and are working on getting a parent group along with students involved in our own movement on a local basis to stop bullying in the VISD system.
Kindness - There are so many people out there who are ignored and treated like they don’t exsist. I’m one of those people. If I were just shown a little kindness one day, I might not feel like this. I try so hard to show kindness to people when they look like they need it. Who knows, maybe that could make someone change their mind about commiting suicide.
Respect - “In order for others to care about someone, one must care about themselves. They must have the respect for themselves that they want others to treat them with. I also choose compassion, because one can be very compassionate and not have to be hateful. The sweeter the berry the sweeter the juice…..this is also true in human nature. I was a victim of Bullying, in fact still am but I am now sick of the nonsense and want it to end. I am willing to stand up for those who can’t.” - Monique M. aka boy robi

Friendship – “Whatever happens, friendship is best. I used to be bullied by a boy one grade above me because I could not run well. One day I was eating my lunch when the bully entered the class and threw my lunch on the floor. Instantly my ring of friends turned up, took the bully into their hands and left him with his hands tied behind his back in front of the teacher’s staff room after reporting him to his class teacher.” - Arnesh S.

Friendship - Because all my friends were there for me during my darkest time in my life.
Respect - “Everyone is different in their own way. We’re a diverse population. Now, why can’t people respect that fact, and embrace it? During 6th grade, I got into anime and manga. Me and all my friends loved it, it’s simply just an interest and hobby we had. Well, little did I know, apparently liking this was a crime in others eyes! We quickly were harassed and bullied for our interest in anime and manga. “Anime freaks, losers, lesbians, emos” and many other things were spit towards us, and our lunch table we hung out at was deemed the “weird lesbian anime emo freaks” table. Now, one day these comments got worse. One day, the “popular” guys, or what we liked to call them, mean little clumpnuggets (lol), were assigned to our table since they were misbehaving. After having some nice, inconsiderate comments directed towards us, one of my good friends Grace pulled out her book to read. Earlier that month, she had gotten a pocket knife from her father, and she told a few people about it with joy. Well, the book she was reading was called “Cut.” These “clumpnuggets” commented “Oh, your book is called cut? Well, you emo, go sit in the corner and cut yourself with your new pocket knife.” That really went over the line. Grace couldn’t take it. She ran towards the bathroom without any looks towards the others, and streams of tears were running down her face. At that moment, I knew it had to stop. Me and my friend Maddy reported it to the teacher, and they actually didn’t do anything. It was like they didn’t even listen to us.” - Taylor
Kindness – Each day, at my lockers, in class, in the halls, etc. I get made fun of, nobody wants to be my friend, they all like I’m ‘lame’, ‘loser’, ‘ugly’, ‘bitch’, etc. But there was this one boy, he’s new to school, he was from Ukraine, he was adopted, (thankfully he knew English so I understood him) he wore a shirt, that said: FREE HUGS, he ran up behind me and gave me a huge hug. He told me he’ll be my friend, that we can be a dynamic duo. Hopefully, everyone who is bullied, can someday have a friend.

Respect - I treat others how I want to be treated. Respect in today’s society goes a long way. Like the saying goes treat your neighbor how you want to be treated the same should go for children, treat others with the same respect you in fact ask for.
Friendship – “I’ve been known as the quiet one until I met my Best Friend. Thanks to her I am so outgoing random and crazy without being afraid of anything. So I would I like to choose friend ship cause it changed my view on life!” - Shana M.
Compassion – “When I was a kid I used to get teased a lot because I was a good student, because I was overweight, and because I was small. For a long time it really put me down, I specially remember how mean and cruel the other kids could be. But after a while and with the help of friends and family I understood that it didn’t matter what others thought of me as long as I was happy with who I was. Today I’m a social worker, loved by my family and friends, a respected member of my community I learned that the only thing that can hurt us is ourselves and only we can put limits on what we can be and achieve. That is why I choose compassion because I learned that we have to give compassion to receive compassion and we have to treat others the way we would like to be treated ourselves.” - Harry W. Rosario Pérez
Respect - I am 21 years old, and for every age group there will be better way to approach bullying. For people my age i have seen that people from that 18-20+ year old range the only thing they want is to be treated like an adult. Mostly everyone, so with that the best way to stop bullying is Respect. An it goes along with the ” Golden Rule” treat people how you would want to be treated. but with this all being said you can use any way to approach bullying to stop it. its just the one you are most comfortable to use to stop the situation.
Love - Without love, we can’t have friendship, kindness, respect or caring. It’s love that makes it all happen.

I would love to get a bracelet for the entire class!! Is this possible? Thank you very much, and keep up the great work!” - Mike
Respect - it doesn’t matter how old you are, how tall you are, how skinny you are; it doesnt matter what color your skin is or the gender of the person love…you deserve respect. No one has to agree with your lifestyle or like how you live your life, but they should respect it. And expecting that kind of respect means that you also need to give it. If people were equally giving the amount of respect they thought they deserved, a lot of problems would be solved. Finally, have enough respect for yourself to treat others the way you would want to be treated. Saying mean things and making someone feel down makes you an ugly person. Being a bully is not very attractive. So be the better person. Give someone a smile. And be you, everyone else is taken.
Love - “I chose love because I feel that everyone needs a little bit of love. If there was a person who was being bullied, knowing that someone loves them can have a huge impact on how the person feels and could ultimately empower them to stand up for themselves in the face of a bully. I know that being loved is what pushes me through my day and reminds me that no matter what anyone says about me, it’s not them that matters. Its those who love me.” - Kaitlyn G.

I am a college graduate, have had numerous internships, I am fit and I have a life that people dream of bullying, I earned my respect and everyone will get it if they continue following their dreams!!! God bless you all!” - Ray V.
Love - “Love isn’t what makes the world go round. Love is what can change the way people think, act, carry them selves and lift others. I’m crushed when I hear the stories about the people that have committed suicide. It’s no one’s place to put everyone down. I was bullied, i still am to this day. It started when i was about 5 years old. I am almost 19 and I still have to live with the hurtful words spoken to me from my past, hear them everyday in my present and wish to stand up for love and respect of the future. I want to make a change. Life will be life no matter what. Love is what makes Life worth living. I am here because of the love that was shown by the few people closest to me. Kindness - “It was hard to choose just one, because they are all so important and we all want each of these things in our lives. I decided to choose kindness because you can be kind to a stranger, a friend, or someone you love. Small acts of kindness, done with respect for others, in a loving and compassionate way, can make a huge difference in a day or a life of another person. recently my class went out for a fire-drill. It was cold and it started to rain. Two of my students had forgotten their jackets. They were shivering. One of my 2nd graders came over to them, took off his coat, and offered it to his friends. His kind and compassionate act at such a young age, brought a tear to my eye. I will never forget his act of kindness. Nor do people deserve to be disrespected period. A lot of reason-less hate is coming about, especially via internet. EVERYONE deserves respect.
Compassion - “I choose compassion because in the town I live in and the school i go to, nobody shows compassion for each other, there’s so much hate, and the bullying is beyond belief. Instead of making life long memories in college I became a victim of bullying and constant harassment for my weight which caused me to become depressed and very focused to get out of school. I wish I had something or somebody to remind me that I can only control my destiny and nobody else can. I can also control how I make others feel by my kindness. If that’s really what they want to spend their time on, so be it. He is another reason why I choose love, he believes in me more than anyone else ever has. He says, it’s okay because you’re going to be something and they’re not. Compassion – “I choose compassion because I think it is an important trait for everyone to have. I think there would be less bullying if everyone showed a little compassion for the people around them. I think compassion and respect kind of go hand in hand when it comes to caring about others.”
Respect – “Some people at my school tease one girl who is Chinese. Sometimes I tell them to just shut up or lay off. I don’t think that it is fair to be racist. I think you should just respect and accept other people for who they are.”

Respect – “There are many things and many people that you won’t always like. There are people that you will see as better than you, less than you, mean to you, rude to you, or just unlikable. This doesn’t mean anyone has the right to pick on them or to bully them and this is where respect comes in. You may not like someone, and that is natural, but you still should give them the respect of not putting them down. People already have enough misconceptions about themselves and to have others go and disrespect them by calling them names, taking things out on them, and blaming them for things they didn’t do, it can cause a lot of damage. It takes much longer to heal from a psychological wound than a physical wound. So, respect others because then they will respect you and wounds can be prevented.” - Miranda
