A Friend

This story isn’t about me but a friend of mine. He was being bullied and recently attempted suicide. He is alive. But barely. He attempted to hang himself. He is currently in critical condition and may not make it. He was being bullied because he is openly gay. Why do people do this? They aren’t any different. A lot of people are saying “oh he brought this upon himself”. That’s stupid. People don’t just wake up in the morning and decide to commit suicide. They have to be driven to it. Saying he brought it on himself is like saying someone with a severe mental illness chose to be that way. He can’t help it he’s different, and bullying him for not liking the same sex as you is like saying that you are going to shun someone because you like different types of sodas. It’s ridiculous and it needs to be stopped. Think about what you are saying, and how it will affect others. Your words can make them or break them.

One of my friends attempted suicide in December by taking an overdose of pills. Luckily they are still living. He wasn’t gay, but this story is right, it’s not fair to make fun of someone for their sexual orientation. To anyone out there who is contemplating suicide right now, don’t. There is always someone who cares about you. Maybe you dont realize it, but there always is. My friend has loving parents and a little sister. They would have been devastated if he had died. I don’t know what I would have done. I am so glad he is living now, and i hope that fewer people will die because of bullying.
