I had completely forgotten all about it until I happened upon the Bully special last night, 10/9/12.
When I was 7 my friend David and I used to pick on another kid in our neighborhood. We would taunt him, call him names and many times physically beat him up. I remember at least one time I gave him a bloody nose. He didn’t go to our school, I think he might have been “slow” and he rode the “short bus” for special kids. We picked on him mercilessly.
One day he invited us to his house (he lived with his Grandma) and there was a square ring set up. He threw me a pair of boxing gloves and we entered the ring. We sparred a bit and then he completely kicked my….well, you know. when he got off me I ripped the gloves off and went after him. He ran into the house and his grandma came out and told us to go home and never come back, that she had seen him beat me fair and square. I never did pick on him again.
I am sure his Grandma got a good laugh out of it and think it was a very effective way of turning the tables.
Funny how clear that memory is 43 years later.
